Cave Spring Rescue Squad will be holding an EMT certification course starting in January 2017.
Pre-requisites: 16 years old. Must have ready access to computer and internet.
Start Date: January 26, 2017. (CPR Certification Class: January 24, 2017)
Class dates/times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 6:30 – 10:00 pm. Occasional Saturdays 9:00 – 3:00.
State practical exam: May 20, 2017, Lord Botetourt High School.
Where: Cave Spring Rescue Squad 3206 Valley Forge Ave Roanoke, VA 24018
Cost: $400 at start of course. Cost covers CPR certification, textbook, training supplies, copies, and on-line training, class testing modules, and first-attempt certification exam. Tuition reimbursement is available to those who join the rescue squad and fulfill the requirements. If you’re interested in learning how reimbursement works, let us know when you register for the course.
Our Fall Chicken BBQ will be Saturday, October 1st. Each meal will include 1/2 a chicken, cole slaw, green beans and a roll. Each meal is $8. There will also be a bake sale in the upstairs meeting room. You can eat in, or carry the meals home. To make a reservation, please come by the station. Cave Spring Rescue Squad was recognized on many levels by the Western Virginia EMS Council during the 2016 regional award ceremony held at the Vinton War Memorial on Thursday evening.
Cave Spring Rescue Squad received the 2016 Outstanding EMS Agency Award. This award is given to an EMS agency that exemplifies outstanding professionalism and service to its community; whose high level of patient care is evident by innovative training, community awareness, preventive health programs, public relations efforts and participation in local, regional and statewide EMS systems.
Our Operational Medical Director, Dr. Carol Bernier received the Dr. Cheryl B. Haas Award for Outstanding EMS Physician. This award is presented to an EMS physician who exemplifies outstanding leadership and dedication in the exercise of prehospital care.
CSRS Life Member and Roanoke County Battalion Chief of EMS William Duff received the Award for Excellence in EMS. This award is presented to an individual who exemplifies outstanding dedication and service to the statewide Virginia emergency medical services system, and has demonstrated a commitment to a comprehensive, integrated system of emergency medical services throughout the Commonwealth.

Four Cave Spring Rescue Squad members are bring honored by the American Red Cross at a breakfast later this month with the 911 Dispatch Hero Award. The four members are Adam LaChappelle, Emma Duff, David Flanagan, and Michael Clark. The four were dispatched to a child having seizures after a sledding accident during January’s snowstorm. Firefighters Ryan Boughal and Ryan Webster from the Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department helped clear the snow to get the team to the patient, and to get the patient out to the ambulance safely. Roanoke County EMS supervisor Jeremy Newman also assisted on the call.
The breakfast will be held at the Hotel Roanoke, on Tuesday, March 29th, at 7:30.
The Cave Spring Rescue Squad Auxiliary has begun taking orders for their Chocolate Easter Eggs. Each egg costs $3. There are four flavors available this year: peanut butter, mint, raspberry, and butter cream. Call 540-354-9041 to place your order. Orders must be placed by March 18th, and picked up by 5pm on March 25th.
On December 5th, Cave Spring Rescue Squad celebrated the year, installed next year’s officers, and gave out awards at our annual Holiday Party. Held at the Holiday Inn at Tanglewood, current members and life members and their families came together to an enjoyable evening with dinner and dancing.
